Upcoming Metro Line Developments in Major Cities
The metro is an essential element of major cities around the world, and there will be significant development there in the next decade. Public transportation is essential to any city, and major projects are underway in many of the world's largest cities. One such project is Barcelona's Metro Line 9, which, when completed in 2024, will provide the Spanish metropolis with 43 kilometers of tracks and 24 stations deep below the earth's surface with adequate transportation infrastructure.
The Purple Line Extension Transit Project in Los Angeles provides a reliable addition to the subway network with seven new stations scheduled for completion by 2027 at an estimated cost of $2.4 billion. The Metrolink project in Dublin provides a single subway line from Estuary in the north to Charlemont in the south with 16 stops and could improve the transportation needs of Dubliners if approved at an estimated cost of €1 billion.
In 2035, the Dublin Metro will be a means of public transportation for citizens by connecting different parts of the city, including Dublin Airport. Construction is scheduled to begin in 2025 and could cost €3 billion or up to €23 billion in total, depending on additional route plans.
Sydney's new metro network includes 113 kilometers of rail lines to be completed by 2050 at an estimated cost of $11 billion. Abu Dhabi's four-track metro system is scheduled to open soon and consists of a five-kilometer line running south to north, two streetcar systems and a Bus Rapid Transit line; however, construction was halted in 2016 and completion is now not expected until 2033 at the earliest, at a total cost of $13.6 billion. The Dubai Metro currently consists of two lines, but there are additional plans for 4 more lines (Lines 3) that would facilitate further growth of the city if needed; the cost of these additional lines hasn't yet been determined, but are part of ongoing expansion projects in the metropolitan area.
In Short
Public transportation is an essential element of a modern city, and it's encouraging to see ambitious projects being proposed and implemented around the world. In the future, cities will benefit from improved public transport networks that enhance mobility, sustainability and accessibility. Now is the time to invest in these projects, as they can help revolutionize our cities and give citizens more freedom of movement. Let's make sure we support these projects so we can continue to create a better future for our cities!
